a. Strain Range: In order to measure strain properly, the corresponding change in local spatial frequency of the tags has to be within the range between the lowand high-tuning frequencies. A good representation of the shifts in tag frequency due to local strain can be represented as shifts in the harmonic peak in the Kz direction, as shown in Fig 1. For that reason, the width of the harmonic peak in the frequency domain (B=1/SliceThickness), which depends on the slice thickness, must be considered. The maximum allowable strain range is bound by the maximum allowable shifts on both directions while taking into account that the peak should always lie between ωL and ωH (which is a basic assumption for the used center of gravity methodology [1]) and that ωL and ωH do not lie outside the slice profile. b. Tagging and Tuning Frequency: Given the targets minimum and maximum strain values max min ,ε ε and using Eq (2) and

Assessment of myocardial strain using strain-encoding (SENC) MRI: comparison of acquisition strategies

Introduction Strain-encoding (SENC) MRI was recently introduced for measuring strain with high-resolution and simple postprocessing (1). Figure-1 shows SENC pulse sequence. In typical SENC sequence, k-space data is acquired line-byline in rectilinear fashion, which results in long scan-time and renders the technique impractical for many applications. Nevertheless, fast imaging techniques, e.g. ...

Modeling Strain-Encoded (SENC) MRI for Use in Clinical Breast Imaging

Introduction: Breast cancer tumors are 3-13 times stiffer than normal tissue [1]. The use of strain-encoded (SENC) MRI was proposed in [2] to detect masses by measuring strain, which is inversely proportional to stiffness. The use of strain imaging of breast lesions would provide a new measure for clinical diagnosis between benign and malignant tissue. Previously in [2], we have shown that SENC...

Layer-specific analysis of myocardial deformation for assessment of infarct transmurality: comparison of strain-encoded cardiovascular magnetic resonance with 2D speckle tracking echocardiography.

AIMS Separate analysis of endocardial and epicardial myocardial layer deformation has become possible using strain-encoded cardiovascular magnetic resonance (SENC) and 2D-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (Echo). This study evaluated and compared both modalities for the assessment of infarct transmurality as defined by late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) cardiovascular magnetic resona...

Detection of Cardiac Infarction in MRI C-SENC Images

Composite Strain Encoding (C-SENC) is an Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technique for acquiring simultaneous viability and functional and images of the heart. It combines two imaging techniques, Delayed Enhancement (DE) and Strain Encoding (SENC). In this work, a novel multi-stage method is proposed to identify ventricular infarction in the functional and viability images provided by C-SENC M...

Strain-encoded MRI for evaluation of left ventricular function and transmurality in acute myocardial infarction.

BACKGROUND Strain-encoded imaging (SENC) is a new technique for myocardial deformation analysis in cardiac MRI. The aim of the study was, therefore, to evaluate whether myocardial deformation imaging performed by SENC allows for quantification of regional left ventricular function and is related to transmurality states of infarcted tissue in patients with acute myocardial infarction. METHODS ...
